Who am I

Onir is a celebrated Indian film and TV director, editor, screenwriter and producer.

A pioneer in independent film-making in India. He shot to fame with his film - My Brother... Nikhil whose critical success inspired many other filmmakers to take the indie route. Over the next few years, Onir continued to experiment with films such as Bas Ek Pal and Sorry Bhai! before finally making the highly acclaimed I Am in the year 2011, which won him the prestigious National Award.

Onir's films have always touched upon debates surrounding sexuality in a most sensitive manner, focusing on the issue of hardship and humiliation faced by AIDS patients, and also dealing with the complexity of human relationships.

Over the years, Onir's & his films have won many awards and traveled across the globe, winning prestigious awards at River to River Film Festival (Florence), London Asian Film Festival, Montreal (Image+ Nation film festival), Golden Gateway of India for Best Film (India Gold) at Mami, Milan International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and the International Film Festival of Kerala.

Onir has been acclaimed for his film’s and their strong themes and he’s carved a niche for himself in the industry over the years.

Besides making films, Onir continues to speak at Organizations, Universities and Forums across the globe.
